How to make your own ozone sterilized water
Homemade ozone sterilized water is relatively simple to make, mainly using electrolysis of water to produce ozone (O₃). Ozone has strong oxidizing properties and can kill bacteria, viruses and mold. Here are the steps to make ozonated water
Materials:
1. Electrolysis ozone generator: this device uses tap water electrolysis to generate ozone. Electrolysis ozone generators can be purchased off-the-shelf, and usually these units can be charged or plugged in and run from an electrical outlet.
2. Container: For storing ozonated water, you can choose from glass bottles or non-reactive plastic containers.
Steps:
1. Prepare tap water: First, pour tap water into the container and make sure the water is clean.
2. Connect the electrolytic ozone generator: Immerse the electrode part of the electrolytic ozone generator into the water, make sure the electrode is completely immersed under the water surface.
3. Turn on the equipment: Start the electrolysis ozone generator, the equipment will generate ozone in the water through the electrolysis process. During this process, the device usually produces many micro and nano bubbles.
4. Wait for the ozone to be generated: It usually takes a few minutes (depending on the equipment) and when the electrolysis process is complete, the water will contain a certain concentration of ozone.
5. Using ozonated water: Once ozonated water is made, it can be used for cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, and so on. It should be noted that ozone has a short half-life and the concentration of ozone usually decreases significantly within 15-30 minutes, so it is best to use it as soon as possible.
Precautions:
- Avoid prolonged skin contact: Although ozone water is generally safe, prolonged contact with ozone water may cause skin irritation, so avoid prolonged use.
- Preservation issues: Homemade ozonated water is not suitable for prolonged storage as the ozone will break down quickly, so it is best to use it for as short a time as possible. If you need to use it again you can continue the electrolysis in the original unpolluted water.
If you are already using a similar electrolyzed ozone product, it may be easier to get started with this type of homemade method.
